Rhetoric in the Future

Jesus... rhetoric today is so vitriolic and aggressive. It is difficult for anything have any sort of innocence anymore! Once upon a time, there was an era where dolls were for girls and cars were for boys. And if you were sorry fellow with something like pink elephants, you'd just glue a wig onto it and you're Dad of the Year! It was quick and simple and toy store outings would be much more easy on the parents: drop the son in one place and the daughter at another and they'd squeal back with a stupid grin, the son would come back with an action figure or car or toy gun and the daughter with another pretty doll sister for the collection.

And then I read “Our Barbies, Ourselves," and I couldn't well do that anymore could I? I should just bring out my trusty toolbox and figure out how to make my kid's Barbie seem less phallic. Everyone is so on edge and critical of our youth. They ruined a good thing. "Could this account for the popularity of breast implant surgery" the author contends. Hah! Barbies are so deeply rooted into culture and identity, that Barbie's are what girls want and what their friends want; Barbies are not going anywhere. And even if some women decide to augment their breasts, WhatsItToYa?

The funny part of “Our Barbies, Ourselves,", is that the author never provides a clear cut solution to the problem. What type of advanced rhetoric is that? She just vomited a rant on Barbie's and Barbie lovers and providers and didn't have the decency to be clear-cut in her demands. Rhetoric like that is why things never change.
